Our “No Plan” Wedding
When Steph and I got married, we didn’t have a Pinterest board. We didn’t hire a planner. We barely had a budget. Honestly, we just wanted it to be done so we could finally start our lives together.
Our version of an elopement came together in under 30 days.
Steph found a lace dress in the garment district in L.A. I already had way too many clothes from years working in retail. I borrowed a blazer from a friend and that was that.
We didn’t have a lot of money, but we had love—and thankfully, Steph’s parents were incredibly supportive. They helped us out with catering and invited family and friends. Before we knew it, we were married.
Was it perfect? No.
Was it ours? 100%.

I knew how to manage schedules, hit sales targets, coach underperformers, and keep my store afloat during Black Friday chaos.
But nothing in that job prepared me for the mental, emotional, and physical weight of running my own business.

1. The Learning Curve is Brutal (and Beautiful)
I’ve learned more in 3.5 years of working for myself than I did in all my years managing retail. You don’t just “wear many hats”—you are the business. Sales, marketing, taxes, SEO, social media, customer service, copywriting, networking, branding, accounting, production, logistics, and sometimes, janitor.

That failure forced us to learn.

When we launched lastminutephotoshoot.com, we started with zero traffic. I remember in January of this year, we hit 40 visitors for the month, and I was pumped. Now, we’re just shy of 1,000 a month—and it’s wild to think how far we’ve come. Weekly leads. Monthly bookings. We’re finally seeing momentum. It’s like watching a dream grow legs and start walking.
There’s no safety net. And strangely, that’s what makes the growth so real.
2. Discipline is the Real Boss
In retail, someone told me where to be and when. Clock in, clock out, repeat.
Now? No one’s watching. No one’s clapping. No one’s warning you when you’re coasting or burning out.
I had to build discipline from scratch—learning how to stay focused when money was low, when clients ghosted, when doubt crept in.

We wake up early, go for a walk to clear our heads, get errands and housework done in the morning, then spend the rest of the day either editing, working on the website, or creating content when we don’t have a schedule photoshoot.
When we need a break, we walk our three pups or hit the home gym. Once a week, we carve out time just for creativity—no client work, just us creating for the love of it. Or we’ll escape to the mountains for a hike and fresh air. It’s not glamorous—but it’s honest. And it works for us.
3. Side Hustles Aren’t Failures—They’re Chapters
Before Last Minute Photoshoot, we tried everything. Multiple side hustles, pivot after pivot. Some flopped. Some showed us what we didn’t want.
But each one taught us something.

What we learned?
No one tells you to clock in when you’re self-employed. That food delivery grind taught us time management and hustle. We’d write “Thank you” notes with orders just to brighten someone’s day—and we saw it reflected in our tips.
Those “failures” taught us that a website isn’t a goldmine unless you nourish it—consistently. You have to learn sales, marketing, SEO, customer care. You can’t fake momentum.
4. You Don’t Just Work On Your Business, You Work On Yourself
This journey has forced me to face every insecurity I had around money, value, rejection, visibility, and worth. Running a business is personal development on steroids.

What do I need to research today?
Whether it’s blog ideas, cold outreach, or figuring out a better client experience—if it moves the business forward, we do it. Even if it’s uncomfortable.
5. Success Isn’t a Moment. It’s a Series of Decisions
There’s no finish line where you “make it.” What you have instead are dozens of small decisions you make every week—some painful, some exciting—that shape the path forward.
Success started to look less like a number and more like:
Taking a day off without guilt
Feeling proud of how you handled a tough client
Seeing your work genuinely impact someone’s life

When Carlos first reached out to us in early June, he had a vision—a heartfelt surprise proposal at a scenic Temecula winery that his girlfriend, Isabella, would never see coming. Inspired by one of our blogs about undercover proposal photography in Temecula, he submitted our form and we got to planning. Together, we built a fake storyline where we were hired by Vitagliano Winery to capture content for their social media, giving us the perfect cover to document every moment of this unforgettable day. From a scenic tour in a golf cart to a staged tasting, everything led up to that golden hour “yes” on the dock, surrounded by vineyards. Carlos dropped to one knee, and Isabella’s reaction said it all—joy, love, and total surprise. These are the moments we live for. The Cover Story
To keep the surprise alive, we built a little story together. Carlos told Isabella that Vitagliano had hired photographers (us!) to take candid shots of guests enjoying the grounds for their social media. The idea? Blend into the winery crowd, casually snap content, and wait for golden hour to strike.
When the big day came, we arrived early to scout the location and make sure everything was in place. Around 5 p.m., Carlos and Isabella showed up, and the “tour” began. A golf cart (a.k.a. their chariot) whisked us all around the vineyard while we played our part—chatting, snapping candids, and pretending like it was just another day on assignment.
From Tastings to The Yes
We wrapped up the tour at the winery’s restaurant, where Carlos and Isabella enjoyed a mini tasting. We then gave them space, telling them we had to go photograph other guests (aka keep the act going). As we wandered, we texted Carlos updates—letting him know when and where to meet us.
Just before golden hour, we reunited for what Isabella thought were more “social media photos.” We captured a few beautiful candids before leading them down to the dock. And then, the moment happened.

We were up by 3:00 AM. Two hours of driving, plus coffee and gas stops—non-negotiables. The courthouse didn’t open until 8:00 AM, but we wanted to be on-site early to scout photo locations and be ready before the groom arrived. When we got there, the air was still crisp, and the streets were quiet. We walked the property, found the best light, envisioned their ceremony, and mapped out a few must-have shots.

By the time we wrapped our indoor photos just before 11:00 AM, the entire building was packed with families, couples, and other wedding parties. There would’ve been no way to capture clean, uninterrupted shots on the iconic staircase or upstairs hallway after that.
