Plan Your Los Angeles Proposal
It All Started with a Message
On May 6, Joseph reached out to us asking if we were available to photograph his surprise proposal at Griffith Observatory on June 24.
We replied immediately, letting him know we were available while asking a few questions to better understand his vision.
One thing stood out immediately.
He wanted his children to be part of one of the biggest moments of his life.
Rather than simply photographing the proposal, Joseph wanted to create a memory his entire family could look back on for years to come.
We loved the idea.
Sometimes Plans Change—And That's Okay
As planning continued, life happened.
Joseph's timeline shifted, and instead of proposing in late June, he decided to move everything up to May 24, right in the middle of Memorial Day weekend.
To say we were busy would be an understatement.
Leading into Memorial Day weekend, Stephanie and I already had four surprise proposals scheduled, with several more sessions immediately afterward.
We always joke with each other...
"Love doesn't stop for anyone."
Behind every proposal is a lot more than simply showing up with cameras.
Every proposal we photograph includes planning, timeline creation, scouting, communication, backup plans, GPS pins, proposal cues, and logistics. During busy holiday weekends, those plans become even more important as we're often traveling across Southern California on very little sleep while making sure every couple still receives the same experience we'd want if it were our own proposal.
No matter how busy the calendar gets, one thing never changes.

Why We Moved the Proposal
Originally, Joseph planned to propose at Griffith Observatory.
As Memorial Day weekend approached, several wildfires were active throughout Los Angeles County, creating smoky skies and triggering air quality advisories across parts of the region.
Although Griffith Observatory remained an incredible location, we didn't feel those conditions would create the best experience for Joseph and his family.
Rather than hoping conditions improved, we began discussing alternatives.
That's when we recommended The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in nearby San Marino.
Being farther inland, Huntington offered noticeably clearer skies, better air quality, and a more comfortable environment for spending several hours outdoors with the kids.
Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we could have made.

For couples, however, it's much more than a museum.

Stephanie has been photographing professionally for over 10 years.
Before we built Last Minute Photoshoot, she was focused on maternity, family, and event photography—developing a strong foundation in capturing real moments and genuine emotion. That experience is what allows us to step into high-pressure moments like proposals and weddings and execute with confidence.
As for me, before this business, I worked in luxury retail managing a store with over 10 employees. That background shaped how I approach everything we do now—focused on client experience, attention to detail, and clear communication from start to finish.
Today, I handle the day-to-day operations behind the scenes—managing our online store, customer service, and creative direction—making sure everything runs smoothly so every client has a seamless experience.

Snow-Line Orchard has been a beloved family-owned farm since the 1800s, drawing visitors with its U-pick berries, apple cider, mountain trails, and famous mini donuts. It’s the kind of place where memories stack on top of each other—where families return year after year, where traditions grow, and where love stories quietly take root. For our client, this orchard was exactly that: a place woven into their relationship from the very beginning.
They moved from the East Coast to Southern California to carve their new path together. Every fall they visited Snow-Line, picking apples, sharing donuts, and wandering the property hand in hand. So when Joseph reached out to plan the proposal, he knew there was no better location to begin the next chapter of their story.
Before heading to the orchard, we stopped at Beaumont Flowers to pick up 16 handcrafted floral pieces and several bags of fresh rose petals—his vision was thoughtful, intentional, and romantic. We’ve done small floral setups before, but never anything at this beautiful scale. Once the pieces were in hand, we headed to the farm early, found the perfect spot overlooking the mountains, created the floral layout, spread the petals, and waited quietly for their arrival.
And to keep ourselves warm in that crisp mountain air, we grabbed something Snow-Line is quietly famous for: their hot mulled wine. Served warm and fragrant, it reminded me of cranberry sauce—sweet, spiced, and comforting. On an early morning photoshoot with the mountains still waking up, that cup kept us warm and grounded. If you ever visit, it’s a must-try.
When the couple walked into the orchard, the world seemed to pause. As she stepped into the floral path and realized what was happening, her eyes filled instantly—pure surprise, pure emotion, pure love. Joseph delivered his speech, dropped to one knee, and she said yes in the most joyful, tear-filled moment.
After the proposal, we moved seamlessly into intimate storytelling photography. We recreated their very first visit here—wandering through berry rows, shopping inside the farm store, dancing to live music, picking raspberries, and sharing those iconic mini apple donuts. Every moment felt effortless and genuine, the kind of day that will be retold for decades. The kind of proposal people dream about.

When Ian reached out from Northern California to plan a surprise proposal at Griffith Observatory, we knew it would be one for the books. Overlooking the city lights of Los Angeles and the iconic Hollywood sign, the Observatory offered a cinematic setting for their engagement photos. From unexpected crowds to shifting light, every challenge became part of their story — a real-life La La Land moment where love took center stage. Some moments in life ask for sacrifice, and this one was worth every bit of it. Ian first reached out to us in early October to plan a surprise proposal at the iconic Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. The date he had in mind? October 24 — my birthday. We originally had camping plans, but this year’s theme has been all about sacrifice for growth, so we swapped the tent and campfire for a camera and one of the most romantic skylines in California.

We booked an Airbnb near Griffith to make the day smoother, checked in, grabbed a bite to eat, and took a Lyft up the hill, arriving around 3:30 PM. The plan was simple: shoot at 5:00 PM on the West Terrace, starting at the arched walkway — the perfect blend of architecture, skyline, and that famous Hollywood glow.
Everything was set. We dropped pins for Ian, found the perfect spot, and waited. As the clock struck five, Ian and Gabby appeared, walking up to us and asking if we could take their photo — the cue we had planned. But right as we started, one of the observatory staff opened a door nearby and told us we needed to move.
It was a small bump in the road, but the timing couldn’t have been more real. Ian was already mid-sentence, telling Gabby how he felt. What seemed like forever — with waves of people walking out — finally cleared, and we reset for Take Two. Just like a movie scene, fitting for being in Los Angeles, with the Hollywood sign in the distance.
After a few laughs and deep breaths, Ian finished his words, got down on one knee, and asked Gabby to marry him. She said yes.
Sometimes life gives you what you need versus what you want — an early lesson that things don’t always go according to plan, but being able to pivot without reacting is a powerful skill. We spent the rest of the evening walking the terrace, capturing candid moments and taking full advantage of the fleeting sun. The scene turned almost cinematic — a real-life La La Land moment, fittingly their favorite movie.
It was one of those proposals that reminded us why we do what we do — not for perfection, but for authenticity. Every unplanned moment has its magic if you’re present enough to see it.
