Surprise Proposal FAQ
Everything You Should Know Before Planning a Surprise Proposal
1) Booking & Availability
How do we book surprise proposal photography?
Booking starts with a quick planning conversation where we discuss your proposal idea, location, timing, and any details that will help the moment unfold naturally.
Once we confirm the plan, we send an agreement and proposal. Your date is officially reserved once the agreement is signed and the retainer is paid.
Because our brand is Last Minute Photoshoot, we specialize in accommodating short-notice proposals whenever availability allows. We’ve helped clients plan a proposal with less than 12 hours notice, including helping choose a location, plan the timing, and coordinate how the surprise will unfold.
We regularly help both local clients and visitors traveling from out of state who want a proposal photographed while visiting Southern California.
How far in advance should I book a proposal photographer?
Some clients book several weeks ahead, while others reach out only a few days before their proposal.
While earlier planning gives more flexibility with location and timing, we are very experienced with short-notice proposal planning.
Do you photograph proposals on weekdays and weekends?
Yes. We photograph proposals throughout the week.
Weekdays can sometimes offer quieter locations and easier parking, especially at beaches, parks, wineries, and scenic viewpoints.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Most clients reserve their date with a retainer and pay the remaining balance before the proposal day.
Can I reschedule my proposal photography session?
Yes. One reschedule is typically allowed when requested early and subject to availability.
2) Planning Your Surprise Proposal
Will you help plan the proposal?
Yes. Many clients come to us with only a general idea, and we help guide the rest.
We regularly help with:
• Choosing the best proposal location
• Timing the proposal for ideal lighting
• Creating a believable cover story
• Coordinating where we will be positioned
• Planning portraits immediately after the proposal
Our goal is to make the experience smooth and stress-free.
How do we keep the proposal a surprise?
We work closely with you to create a natural setup.
Many proposals happen during what appears to be:
• a casual walk
• sightseeing
• a winery visit
• a planned photoshoot
We position ourselves discreetly nearby so we’re ready to capture the exact moment.
What are the best times of day for a proposal?
From experience photographing proposals across Southern California:
• Sunset (golden hour) provides the most flattering light
• Sunrise works well for quiet beaches and scenic overlooks
• Weekday evenings often have fewer crowds
We help guide the timing so lighting and location work together beautifully.
Can you help choose the proposal location?
Yes. We frequently recommend locations across Southern California including beaches, cliffs, parks, wineries, and scenic viewpoints depending on the type of proposal experience you want.
3) What Happens on the Day of the Proposal
How early should I arrive?
We usually recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early so you can relax and get comfortable before the moment happens.
Where will you be during the proposal?
We will already be positioned ahead of time and blending naturally into the environment.
In many cases we appear as someone photographing the scenery, a tourist, or another visitor enjoying the location.
How will I know where to stand?
Before the proposal day, we send clear instructions including:
• the exact meeting location
• where to walk
• where to stop
• where we will be positioned
This helps the moment unfold naturally while making sure the proposal is captured clearly.
What happens right after the proposal?
After the “yes,” we’ll introduce ourselves and begin a short portrait session while emotions are still fresh.
This is when we capture:
• the ring
• celebration photos
• candid reactions
• romantic portraits together
4) Proposal Photography Coverage
What moments do you photograph during a surprise proposal?
Depending on the package you choose, we can capture:
• Arrival and approach to the proposal spot
• The exact proposal moment
• The reaction and celebration after the “yes”
• Ring photos
• Couple portraits immediately after the proposal
These images tell the full story of your proposal.
How long does a proposal photoshoot last?
Most proposal sessions include 20–60 minutes of photography after the proposal moment so we can capture portraits and celebration photos.
Can family or friends join after the proposal?
Yes. Some clients coordinate for friends or family to arrive shortly after the proposal so the celebration continues.
What if something changes or the timing shifts?
Proposals rarely happen exactly on schedule.
We always arrive early and stay flexible so we can adapt if timing changes slightly.
5) Helpful Proposal Tips
What should I say when proposing?
Keep it simple and genuine.
A helpful structure many people follow is:
Start: Share what you love about your partner
Middle: Talk about the journey you’ve shared together
Future: Tell them why you want to spend your life together
Then ask the question.
The most meaningful proposals usually come from the heart rather than a long speech.
Which knee should I propose on?
Traditionally, proposals happen on the left knee, though what matters most is the moment itself.
Keep the ring secure but accessible
Make sure the ring is safe but easy to reach when the moment comes.
Don’t rush the moment
Take a breath before proposing and enjoy the experience.
Those few seconds are a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
Consider the lighting
Sunset proposals often create the most beautiful images, especially along the coast or at scenic viewpoints.
Trust the plan
Once everything is coordinated, relax and let the moment unfold naturally.
6) Photo Delivery & Editing
When will we receive our photos?
Typical delivery timeline:
• Unedited preview images: 24–48 hours
• Final edited photos: 5–7 business days
How will our photos be delivered?
Your images are delivered through a private Pixieset gallery where you can download high-resolution photos and order prints.
Can we order prints or albums?
Yes. Professional prints, framed artwork, and albums can be ordered directly through your gallery.
