Brice and Alicia’s surprise proposal on San Diego Bay began with a canceled photographer and an Instagram message. It ended with champagne aboard a private yacht—and inspired an entirely new experience for our business.
We’re Stephanie and Son Le, the husband-and-wife team behind Last Minute Photoshoot. In September, we photographed and recorded Brice’s proposal to Alicia aboard Ripple Effect, a 48-foot Sea Ray yacht provided by Gold Coast Yacht Charters.
Before the downtown skyline, the ring, and the celebration, we had to get aboard without Alicia realizing why we were there.
And we had very little time to do it.
Sometimes the most unforgettable moments come down to just a few minutes, a little coordination, and one very important question. Brice & Alicia's San Diego yacht proposal is proof that you don't need an ordinary setting to create an extraordinary memory. Imagine cruising across San Diego Bay aboard a private luxury yacht, surrounded by sparkling water, breathtaking skyline views, and the excitement of a surprise your partner never saw coming.
Through Proposals at Sea by Last Minute Photoshoot, in partnership with Gold Coast Yacht Charters, we bring together private yacht charters, personalized surprise proposal planning, and professional photography into one thoughtfully coordinated experience.
From communicating with your captain and creating a believable cover story to planning the perfect moment to kneel, recording the proposal, and capturing beautiful engagement portraits afterward, we'll help coordinate the details so you can focus on the person standing in front of you.
Choose our two-hour Private Yacht Proposal or three-hour Luxury Yacht Proposal Experience, with champagne, unforgettable views, and time to celebrate your newly engaged chapter together.
Because the moment you ask might last only seconds, but the memories deserve to last forever.
You bring the ring. We'll bring the yacht, the cameras, and a plan worth remembering.

An Instagram Message and a Last-Minute Change
Brice reached out through Instagram in mid-September. His photographer had canceled, and he was planning a surprise yacht proposal the following weekend.
He needed someone to capture it.
He also told us he loved our photographs—even more than the work he had originally booked. Hearing that meant a lot, especially from someone trusting us with a moment that was already planned and approaching quickly.
We replied immediately, thanked him, and started asking questions.
What time did we need to board? What kind of boat was it? How large was the vessel? What did Alicia know about the afternoon? How could we be there without giving away the surprise?
We couldn’t know what had happened with his original photographer. What mattered now was finding out whether we could help Brice keep his plan together.
There was one complication: we already had a proposal session that morning.
From the Japanese Friendship Garden to the Marina
Brice needed us aboard around 11 a.m.
We had a 10 a.m. proposal at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, booked for a 30-minute session.
We explained that we could aim to arrive at 11. Brice understandably felt that was cutting it close. He wasn’t sure we would make it.
So we worked through the route.
Our map estimate showed approximately 4.3 miles and a 15-minute drive from Balboa Park to the boarding area near Mitch’s Seafood in Point Loma.
The drive was only one part of it.
We also needed time to finish the morning session, return to our car, leave Balboa Park, find parking near the marina, carry our equipment to the yacht, and board before Brice and Alicia.
Our morning session needed to finish around 10:30–10:35 for that plan to work.
But we wanted to understand the route firsthand before committing to that turnaround.
Before Proposal Day, We Drove the Route Ourselves
Before the big day, Stephanie and I drove to Balboa Park, then followed the route to the parking area near Mitch’s Seafood.
We wanted to see how long the drive took, understand the parking layout, and familiarize ourselves with the approach to the marina.
When a project has several moving parts, we scout what we can. Knowing where to drive, where to park, and how to reach the meeting point helps us make better decisions when time is tight.
Your big day shouldn’t be left to chance. That’s why we put time into preparation before we ever raise a camera.
The test drive helped us understand the timing and navigate the area. It couldn’t guarantee an open parking space on a busy weekend—but it meant we were arriving with more than directions on a screen.
That preparation became especially useful on proposal day.
The Parking Problem We Had Hoped to Avoid
Our morning session ran a few minutes longer than we had hoped.
Then we reached the parking area near Mitch’s Seafood.
It was the weekend. There wasn’t a space available.
As we searched, we messaged Josh from Gold Coast Yacht Charters to let him know we were running a few minutes behind.
He said he would do his best to stall, but we needed to be there in about five minutes.
We finally found a space roughly two blocks away in the neighborhood, grabbed our camera gear, and hurried toward the marina.
As we passed Mitch’s Seafood, we spotted Brice and Alicia.
They were still eating.
The relief was immediate. We still had time to get aboard before them.
A few moments later, we reached the yacht.
We had made it.
Becoming Part of the Crew Without Giving Away the Surprise
Once aboard, we met Josh and JC, the team helping make the afternoon happen.
The cover story was simple: we were content creators working with Gold Coast Yacht Charters to photograph marketing material for their business.
That gave us a natural reason to have cameras aboard.
When Brice and Alicia arrived, we said hello and kept things casual. We didn’t draw attention to ourselves or make the greeting feel like the beginning of a photography session.
They settled in, and the yacht headed into San Diego Bay.
After the rush to get there, we could finally take a breath.
Now our job was to stay ready.
A Private Cruise Through San Diego Bay
Watch Brice surprise Alicia with a marriage proposal aboard Ripple Effect, a 48-foot Sea Ray from Gold Coast Yacht Charters on San Diego Bay. Photographed and recorded by Last Minute Photoshoot, their skyline proposal inspired Proposals at Sea, combining private yacht charters, personalized proposal planning, and professional photography.
As the yacht moved into the bay, Coronado Bridge and the downtown San Diego skyline became part of the afternoon’s scenery.
Brice and Alicia enjoyed their time aboard while we discreetly photographed them.
The cover story allowed us to keep our cameras out without making every photograph feel significant. We could capture the experience as it unfolded while staying prepared for the proposal.
That was an important part of the plan: being present enough to photograph the moment while giving the couple room to enjoy the cruise.
By then, the parking scramble was behind us.
We were exactly where we needed to be.
Brice Proposed With the San Diego Skyline Behind Them
When the yacht reached the downtown waterfront, with the skyline behind them, Brice got down on one knee and asked Alicia to marry him.
We photographed the proposal and recorded the moment.
After the messages, route scouting, captain coordination, and sprint from the car, everything came together around that question.
Alicia said yes.
Then the champagne bottles came out.
The afternoon became a celebration aboard the yacht, with photographs of the newly engaged couple and the San Diego waterfront around them.
What had started as a stressful search for a replacement photographer ended with the moment Brice had hoped to give Alicia.
We were grateful to be there to capture it.
The Proposal That Inspired Proposals at Sea
Brice and Alicia’s experience stayed with us after we returned to shore.
The scenery was beautiful, but what stood out was how much the people involved shaped the experience.
Brice trusted us with his proposal. Josh helped coordinate our arrival. The onboard team supported the cover story. We could photograph the surprise because everyone understood their part.
That collaboration helped inspire Proposals at Sea by Last Minute Photoshoot, in partnership with Gold Coast Yacht Charters.
Brice originally came to us for photography coverage for a charter he was already arranging. His proposal became the starting point for bringing those services together into a coordinated experience for future couples.
Today, Proposals at Sea combines:
A private yacht charter through Gold Coast Yacht Charters.
Personalized surprise proposal planning.
Coordination with the captain.
A cover story and discreet proposal cue.
Professional proposal and engagement photography.
A raw recording of the proposal moment.
Captain gratuity included in the package price.
The goal is to help couples understand the experience before booking and feel prepared when they arrive.

What Brice & Alicia’s Proposal Taught Us
This was a tight turnaround, and we felt every minute of it.
It reinforced why we prepare beyond the photography: driving the route, understanding parking, confirming the boarding deadline, communicating with the charter team, and agreeing on a believable reason for us to be aboard.
A short drive does not always mean a quick arrival. Scouting helps us understand the area, while communication helps us respond when the day unfolds differently than expected.
For Brice and Alicia, the plan came together through preparation, trust, and a team working toward the same moment.
We’ll always remember their proposal as the afternoon we boarded with minutes to spare—and left with the beginning of something new.
