3,200 Miles, 16 Love Stories & Our First No-Show | What August Taught Us About Running Last Minute Photoshoot
August 2026 took Last Minute Photoshoot across roughly 3,200 miles of Southern California for 16 love stories—from San Diego and La Jolla to Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Joshua Tree, Palm Desert, Idyllwild and beyond. About 60% of our bookings were last-minute, while 57–64 potential clients reached out through our website, social media, email and messages. Behind the finished proposal photos were location changes hours before “yes,” forgotten cues, a wrong boat stop, one unexpected fence jump and our first-ever proposal no-show. This is the real story behind a month of surprise proposal photography—and what August taught Son & Stephanie about planning, adapting, long hours, client trust and why Last Minute Photoshoot remains a labor of love.

Japanese Friendship Garden Surprise Proposal at Balboa Park
Efrain reached out to us through Instagram after seeing photos we captured inside the Japanese Friendship Garden at Balboa Park in San Diego. Inspired by the peaceful scenery and iconic earth bridge overlooking the koi pond, he wanted to plan a surprise proposal for his girlfriend, Areli. After securing the garden reservation and coordinating the timing before the garden opened to the public, we helped plan a quiet morning proposal. As Efrain and Areli crossed the bridge, he gently turned her around and got down on one knee. She said yes. With the surprise captured, we spent the rest of the morning exploring the Japanese Friendship Garden and Balboa Park for portraits, documenting the beginning of their engagement in one of San Diego’s most beautiful proposal locations.
