If you're planning a courthouse wedding in San Diego, the San Diego County Administration Building is easily one of the most beautiful locations in Southern California to say “I do.”

Located along the waterfront in downtown San Diego, this historic building combines Spanish Revival architecture, palm-lined walkways, and sweeping views of the San Diego harbor, making it one of the most photogenic courthouse wedding locations in California.

At Last Minute Photoshoot, we regularly photograph courthouse weddings and civil ceremonies throughout Southern California, and the San Diego County Administration Building consistently stands out for couples looking for a simple ceremony that still feels special.

If you're considering getting married here, here’s exactly what the experience looks like.

What It’s Like Getting Married at the San Diego County Administration Building

One of the things couples love most about this courthouse is how smooth and efficient the process is.

On the day we photographed a recent civil ceremony here, everything moved quickly and comfortably.

Parking was surprisingly easy, with free parking available nearby for up to three hours, which is ideal for couples and family attending the ceremony.

After arriving, couples pass through a quick security check, then check in on the second floor where civil ceremonies are organized.

When we photographed here on a weekday, the wait time was short. Once our couple checked in, the ceremony followed shortly after, making the process feel relaxed rather than rushed.

The ceremony itself takes place inside the courthouse chapel and is short, meaningful, and intimate.

Once the vows are exchanged and the paperwork is complete, the real fun begins — celebrating and capturing the just-married moments around the courthouse.

Why the San Diego County Administration Building Is Perfect for Wedding Photos

While the ceremony itself happens indoors, the real magic of this location is outside.

The San Diego County Administration Building courthouse wedding location offers some of the most beautiful backdrops in the city.

Within just a few minutes of walking, couples can capture portraits with:

• The historic courthouse arches
• Palm tree lined walkways
• Waterfront views of the San Diego harbor
• The marina just steps away from the courthouse
• Elegant Spanish architecture surrounding the building

Because everything is so close together, couples can easily turn their courthouse ceremony into a beautiful mini wedding photo session without needing to travel far.

Many couples even choose to walk along the San Diego marina nearby for sunset portraits, which creates incredible golden hour photos with the harbor in the background.

Turning a Simple Courthouse Wedding Into a Full Experience

One of the biggest misconceptions about courthouse weddings is that they feel quick or transactional.

In reality, many couples turn their courthouse ceremony into a meaningful wedding experience.

Some couples bring a small bouquet or boutonniere, invite close family members to attend, or celebrate with champagne after the ceremony.

Others choose to extend the moment with portraits along the marina or nearby waterfront.

After photographing one recent courthouse wedding here, we celebrated with our couple by heading nearby to Miguel’s Cocina for lunch, which is a great local spot to relax and celebrate after the ceremony.

It’s small moments like these that make courthouse weddings feel just as memorable as larger celebrations.

Wedding Season Is Around the Corner

With wedding season quickly approaching in Southern California, courthouse weddings have become an increasingly popular option for couples who want a meaningful ceremony without months of planning.

To celebrate our love for last-minute courthouse weddings, we’re offering a limited-time courthouse wedding photography special for couples planning civil ceremonies this season.

Many of our courthouse bookings happen within days or weeks of the ceremony, and our goal is to make the experience easy, relaxed, and beautifully documented.

Whether you're planning ahead or making a spontaneous decision to get married, we’re here to help capture the moment.
