Depending on availability, you may need to park along Coast Highway and walk through the neighborhood before reaching the stairs that lead down to the beach.
The biggest factor, however, is the tide.
The famous pirate tower sits near the shoreline, and during high tide, waves can completely surround the area. On certain days, the water rises enough that walking around the tower becomes difficult—or even unsafe.

After several phone calls and planning sessions, we came up with a different idea.
To help keep the proposal a complete surprise, we actually moved the proposal date forward to Memorial Day, May 25, throwing his girlfriend completely off the trail.
